The paper’s concluding recommendations for growing the strategic communications field and increasing the effectiveness of change work focus on three areas:

• Promoting strategic communications as integral to organizing and critical to building strong organizations.
• Supporting training programs for communications practitioners (whether they are professional staff or volunteer spokespeople) at all levels of experience.
• Devoting time and resources to collaborative communications efforts that reach beyond organizational boundaries and advance progressive movement building.
